The Most traditional and authentic Celebration of Life in San Diego County!

La Vista Historical Foundation is pleased to announce that internationally acclaimed Colombian musical group La Sonora Dinamita will perform at the 11th annual Día de los Muertos celebration on Saturday, October 19 at La Vista Memorial Park in National City.

This year's celebration also welcomes Olga de La Vega Fashion, Tijuana, B.C., showcasing "Weavers of Dreams," a collection of Mexican regional huipil, a traditional garment worn by indigenous women and cultural ensembles. We will introduce a saw dust carpet with several layers of color traditionally used for processions. This carpet will be traveling from Huamantla, Tlaxcala made by artisans who feature the largest sawdust carpets in Mexico.

The celebration will once again award prizes to the best traditional Catrina and altars. The celebration will award $500 to the most traditional Catrina and $1000 cash prize for the most elaborate altars built by visiting families to honor their deceased loved ones.

This year's newest contest invites performing arts, dance studios, and schools of fashion to participate in the largest procession, with a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize.

10/20/2019 - Sukkot Harvest Festival
The 7th Annual Sukkot Harvest Festival family event coincides with the last day of the week-long Jewish holiday of Sukkot, and is the Farm's biggest event of the year, inspired by the Jewish tradition of gathering community outdoors to celebrate the end of an abundant summer harvest and welcome in the fall season and all it brings. The Sukkot holiday is an ancient Jewish harvest festival reflecting themes of hospitality and the welcoming of strangers; like many of the farm's events, the festival will welcome people of all backgrounds. This year's festival theme is Sukkot Shalom, which means "sukkah of peace." The community is invited to meet under the sukkah (temporary shelter) for a day filled with live music, food, and activities for all ages. Happenings include a host of Jewish learning workshops, self-guided Farm Tours, Kids Zone, petting zoo, as well as numerous food vendor options for purchase. The music lineup includes Zzymzzy Quartet and Kavanah by Temple Solel
