4:00 PM San Diego Filipino Cinema's Magic Hour Fest San Diego Filipino Cinema's Magic Hour Fest aims to unite Filipinos and the diverse community in San Diego through a celebration of award-winning short films, Filipino food and live musical performances. This festival will also help raise funds for our non-profit organization's programming initiatives and operations and will also seed SDFC's planned San Diego Global Filipino Film Festival in October.

Magic Hour Fest is the first annual cultural event of the San Diego Filipino Cinema that will surely put a smile on your face, warm your heart, and fill your belly!

Festival Features:

• Film screenings of acclaimed short films by emerging Filipino American filmmakers Chrissie De Guzman, Stephen Lee, and Charles Gray
• Live musical entertainment by renowned Filipina American Bay Area rap artist Ruby Ibarra and San Diego's own Filipina American R&B singer Roann Mesina
• Amazing Filipino food vendors
• A beer garden featuring San Diego local craft beer and world-class Filipino beer
• A VIP section where you can meet and greet with our sponsors, filmmaker guests, and performers (VIP perks details below)
• Fun photo booths
• And an open mic karaoke

6:00 PM 49th Annual Barona Powwow The Barona Band of Mission Indians proudly invites the San Diego community to celebrate Native American heritage at the 49th Annual Barona Powwow over Labor Day Weekend.

The three-day cultural celebration starts on Friday, August 30 with gourd dancing at 6:00 PM and a dramatic grand entry of dancers in colorful regalia at 8:00 PM The Barona Powwow will continue Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 11:00 PM Admission and parking are free.

Hundreds of Native American participants of all ages and from across the country will showcase their dancing skills as they compete in a variety of categories for $80,000 in prize money.

In addition to beautiful regalia and dancing, spectators will be able to enjoy hand drum contests, singing and music, authentic Native American food including delicious Indian fry bread tacos, arts and crafts and handcrafted jewelry.

The Barona Powwow will be held at the Barona Sports Park located on the Barona Indian Reservation just one mile north of the Barona Resort & Casino on Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside. Free shuttle service is available from Barona Resort & Casino to the Powwow.

7:30 PM Latinx New Play Festival A weekend of readings of new plays by Latinx playwrights along with a festival showcase production of 57 Chevy by Emmy Award-winning writer/comedian Cris Franco, starring Culture Clash co-founder Ric Salinas.

The San Diego REP Latinx New Play Festival is a celebration of engaging, dynamic and enlightening new plays by Latinx playwrights from across the United States. Submissions were accepted from Latinx playwrights representing an array of genres, styles and experiences highlighted by both emerging and veteran playwrights.
