11:00 AM Talk: Introducing the Hakka Explore intriguing aspects of Chinese history, culture, and art with SDCHM's monthly lecture series presented by Kathleen Dang. Hakkas, 客家, a significant Chinese population with a name that literally means "guest families" is noted as the most diasporic out of the many Chinese populations. The people who are Hakka are connected by a distinct language and a unique cultural history and not by being from a specific region in China. Today, Hakka people find an instant affinity with other Hakka, regardless of where they are from and where they are now living. The language, cultural customs, and extreme attention to ancestry will be explored.

11:00 AM San Diego Pride Music Festival The San Diego Pride Music Festival celebrates diversity with two days and four stages with over 100 entertainers and thousands of your Pride supporting friends of all ages. General admission: $20 weekend pass (pre-event); $25 weekend pass (day of or at the festival gates). A number of world music artists will be performing at this year's festival.

Note: The Pride Parade takes place on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM at the corner of Normal St. and University Ave.

1:30 PM Film: Cuba's Secret Side Prior to renewed U.S.-Cuban relations, adventure filmmaker Karin Muller hitchhiked for three months, around Cuba - living with fishermen and farmers, a Santeria priestess and country doctors.

She filmed undercover on a tourist visa and Swiss passport and was arrested over a dozen times. In the end she gets beyond the propaganda and rhetoric to capture the true soul of Cuba.

The series features a pre-show introduction and post-show discussion with the film's director, Karin Muller.

This screening will be in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium.

4:00 PM Stage: The Ballad of Emmett Till The now legendary story of Emmett Till is believed by many to be the spark that ignited the modern civil rights movement and remains one of the most pivotal incidents in a monumental era. Till was a 14-year-old Chicago resident who was brutally tortured and murdered for allegedly flirting with a white women while visiting family in Money, Mississippi. This provocative piece of theater — part history, part ghost story — is a jazz integration of past and present, the living and dead, of factual accounts and creative interpolation. Author Ifa Bayeza captures the powerful truths at the heart of this gripping and tragic story, aiming for a soaring work of moving music, potent poetry and rich theatricality.

His mastery of stringed instruments, exceptional picking style on slack key guitar and 'ukulele, and extraordinary baritone to leo ki`eki`e (falsetto) vocal range, have made him a musical legend.

With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of "Led Heads" from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawai'i. In 2011, he was honored with an NEA National Heritage Fellowship for his artistic excellence and his contributions to our nation's traditional arts heritage.
