7:00 PM Shores of Light: Salento 1945-1947 Thousands of Jewish survivors landed in Southern Italy after WWII, on their way to Israel. Amazed by the welcome they received from the local population that so contrasted with the years of hatred, they found joy and healing while they awaited the ships that would run the British blockade. Hundreds of children were born during the wait. The film follows the story of three Israeli women born during this time as they discover the place and culture where their parents began to believe in life again. Weaving rare historical footage with unique current testimonials, the film captures a ray of light after great darkness.

There will be a panel discussion focused on comparing the WW II refugee situation with today's. The panelists are front line workers in SD's refugee issues.

8:00 PM Stage: The Ballad of Emmett Till The now legendary story of Emmett Till is believed by many to be the spark that ignited the modern civil rights movement and remains one of the most pivotal incidents in a monumental era. Till was a 14-year-old Chicago resident who was brutally tortured and murdered for allegedly flirting with a white women while visiting family in Money, Mississippi. This provocative piece of theater — part history, part ghost story — is a jazz integration of past and present, the living and dead, of factual accounts and creative interpolation. Author Ifa Bayeza captures the powerful truths at the heart of this gripping and tragic story, aiming for a soaring work of moving music, potent poetry and rich theatricality.
